Morning in the Adirondacks

So here’s a shot as the sun was just coming up:

IMG_0361

We had awesome weather on our trip.  Just perfect.

All sunny clear days, low humidity, not too hot or cold.  Goldilocks weather.

So here’s what u feed the hungry campers when morning comes:

IMG_0367

Ya that’s quite a lot of bacon – 3 pounds for 6 adults and 4 kids.  Of course we had eggs too.  When men make up the menu, for male camping trips, we don’t spare the calories.  Playing in the wild takes energy.

Enough energy to make a new fireplace.  The site we stayed at, the fireplace was right at the waters edge.  Sounds good, but almost always the breeze comes in from the lake in the evening. So we were around the fire with a breeze blowing the smoke into our face the first night there.

There was enough rock in the first fireplace, plus more was got from the lake, that a new fireplace was made and the original was still able to be used if desired.

The pic above is the new fireplace.  We were able to sit on any side of the fireplace and move if necessary as the breeze shifted.  Note the large flat rocks around the top for putting things down on.  Great improvement.

Till next post  –

More from the Lake

As promised, here are some more shots from the recent Adirondack float trip.

Unobstructed view, and some other paddlers way out there.

Swimmers

We had great weather and the water was warm enough to enjoy.  Wave everyone!!

Float Trip

Hey i’m long overdue to add to this blog. So here’s some shots of our recent float trip.  The best part of living in upstate ny is the accessibility of great places to go and camp, from our boats.  Boats u paddle, canoes and kayaks.  Where do we go?  i already told u, upstate ny.

A view of the lake from our campsite, and lunch on the campfire.  When we head to these trips, we eat well.  Gotta keep our strength up.

Here’s my boat.  Got it used this spring.  She paddles like a dream, (especially with the rudder in the water!).

So as usual this was a fairly good sized group as u may have guessed by our lunch shot.  We would love to bring everyone we know but:

A – that would require way too many boats etc

B – would ruin the wilderness.  we want these places to be here intact for my great great grand kids and beyond.

So anyway i will be showing u more on this trip, which was the end of June.

Later, have a great day.

Great Fathers Day

Hey as i’m sure you know, it was Fathers Day yesterday.  Just wanted to say it was a great day, i saw all my kids / grand-kids.  We ate really well, the sun was shining and we generally had a wonderful time of family and love.

Also one of my son’s birthday.  A most excellent day.

They also gave me a set of kayak racks for the car.  So now (once they are set up on the car) i’ll be able to haul 2 kayaks around.  My younger son also got some so he will b able to do the same.  So soon we can drop a car at the take out, go up to the start, put in the boats and have a nice paddle,  put the boats on the dropped off car, and cruise home.

So anyway it was a great day and we had a great time and etc etc.

Two Little Ones

This may be the cutest post i have ever done.  Now cute is not my goal here, but i have no aversion to it either.  Spring brings out the little bunnies as the rabbit clan takes advantage of all the nice green things there are to eat.

So my son in law was at my father in laws house for dinner.  Out back next to the raised bed (garden) there was the cutest little tiny bunny.  I guess its hardwired into the rabbit psyche to freeze as their primary protection mechanism.  Lucky for this little fur ball, those nearby weren’t predators.

So my little grandson got to pet a wild (can’t u see the fangs?) baby rabbit.

How cute is that?  ya true.

Phantom was so Awesome!!!

So here is a shot of the banner outside the theater where we saw Phantom.  Of course i couldn’t take pictures inside. Sorry.   What a great show!  The story u likely already know.  But this production was really good.

The actors did a wonderful job and the sets were amazing!  really cool stuff, some pyrotechnics even.  Watching the sets change etc was like a show in itself.  I would recommend this show to anyone!  Go and enjoy it.

New Sprumer Color!

Hey i just changed my site color in honor of the season.  After all its  Sprumer!!

I have just invented this season!

Its the one we wait for during the cold weather.  The one we long for while shoveling the solid precipitation off the sidewalk and driveway.  The one we dream about while keeping our homes warm enough by keeping things buttoned up and the heat running, the fire burning etc

SPRUMMER!!

See the color of the leaves has changed from the previous light shade of emergent green, to the deep full blown hearty green of mature leaves.  The plants r now crankin out the solar conversion of sunlight to carbs.  The miracle of photosynthesis.

So open your windows and let the Sprummer breeze flow in, enjoy the restful sleep of fresh air and cool nights.

Rock it!

Tonight the Phantom

So back in the Christmas season, the menfolk of my family gave the womenfolk all a gift – tickets to

“Phantom of the Opera”  !!

As men we don’t in general aspire seeing a production like this and knew it would b a unique gift to take our women there.  BUT i’m sure we ALL will enjoy it.

Luckily it is not opera, its a musical.  Honestly there is no way i think i could enjoy an actual opera.  This is a love story.  I have seen it before on the telly, but not a stage show.  So just going to the theater will b fun.

So soon after i will bring u my non-professional, guy point of view, review.

Have a good day (how is your sprumer going?) (spring-summer)

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Hey how r u today?

Just a few thoughts on Baseball:

First i know many here in the good old USA like Football best. Thats ok.  I enjoy watching a good football game, the warfare of it all, the strength contest and the strategy, the exciting runs and sometimes long passes.  all good and fine. And i know there r those Football fans who think baseball boring.

Well i find Baseball great on many levels.  its awesome to watch the pros do what they do best, hit long (and short, sometimes more exciting), great fielding plays as an outfielder dives for one or jumps up to steal away a homer.

Its also great to watch Baseball on a slightly smaller scale.  Like where we live we have a farm team that i sometimes get to go watch.  Now if u live where u can go to see the pros in person, enjoy! But for me that’s a long and expensive trip.  I mean i have done it occasionally but due to being way too busy and also a little cheap its not something i do very often.  The local farm team is a short car ride maybe half an hour, and very reasonably priced, while providing a great experience, excitement and  fun.

And then there r the raw beginners.  really raw.  My grand kids are just learning the sport.  They r 6 years old.  This isn’t tee ball but its very informal.  The coach pitches until the batter gets some kind of hit, then the kids run to first etc.  There r no strikeouts, its like a highly modified version of Baseball that is way more training than competition.

There r pros in this game too.  a few kids on the team have their own batting helmets, and bats.  They have been playing with their dads for years.  I salute the devotion of those dads and say nice work, your kid will no doubt excel and you have a great bond and show how much you love your offspring and the game.  BTW some of these kids can really hit!

Then there  r the kids who r experiencing Baseball for the very first time.  They r just learning the rules and it takes them maybe 20 tries to hit the ball.  This is more than ok too.  how many people have the luck to be good at something the first few times at it?

And who knows, some of these raw beginners may wind up in the big pro park some day.  or not.  But anyway its a great time to be there on the sidelines, chatting with family, cheering for the kids and just loving the fun of Baseball, no pressure.  There will b plenty of time for pressure later in life, won’t there?

PLAY BALL!!!
